Yup it's true! In case you didn't know, I live in Pennsylvania, and well, we just don't get many hurricanes around here. We had one a couple of years ago, but it was during the night and I pretty much slept through the whole thing.
But this one - named Sandy - sounds like a whopper! And it's going to be during the day . . . and I'll probably get to miss school since it's supposed to be here on Monday, and maybe even Tuesday. I mean, it would be irresponsible and dangerous for our principal to make us go to school during a hurricane, don't you think? If you ask me, they might as well go ahead and declare school closed right now. Why take chances that someone might miss the announcement?
I'm kind of excited. Natalie (she's my best friend in case you forgot) is going to hang out with us. It will be so much fun. We're going to paint each other's nails, and play board games and stuff.
Do you like Halloween? I love it!! So does my best friend Natalie. Every year we go trick or treating together in coordinating costumes. You know - the good witch and the bad witch ( I was the good), Yellow and Orange M&M's (yellow here) and even *gulp* Disney Princesses. I was... I can't even tell you, it's too embarrassing. In fact, I'm 99.9% positive I have destroyed all photographic evidence of that horrific day. Anyway, this year, Natalie wanted to go as clowns, but to be honest, clowns really creep me out, so I suggested we go as pop stars instead. I figured we could get those funky colored wigs and hold pretend microphones. Cool right? That's what I thought too, so I asked Mom if she could take us to the store so we could look for our costumes, and do you know what she said? She said, "Millicent Marie aren't you getting a bit old to go trick or treating?"
SAY WHAT? Is she crazy? Okay - don't answer that. I'm not supposed to be saying mean things on this blog, remember? But seriously - since when is there an age limit on Halloween? I mean even all the advertisements in the paper have adult costumes in them, and it's not like I'm fifty - - I'm only twelve! (And not that there's anything wrong with a fifty year olds going trick or treating - it's just a number I made up to make my point. So please - all you fifty year old - don't start sending me hate mail!)
Well, it took some doing, but I think I convinced Mom that trick or treating has nothing to do with age. It has to do with dressing up and having fun and hanging out with your friends - and oh yeah - there might be some candy involved too, but mostly it's about having fun.
So what do you think? Is there an age limit on Halloween? And while you're at it - what are you or your kids going as this year? Let me know, cause I just LOVE it when you all leave me cool comments. Otherwise, I just feel like I'm talking to myself. (Not that there's anything wrong with that either - that Karen Toz lady does it all the time!)
Until Next Time - - Millie
So I bet you're all wondering what it's like for a twelve-year old to be on tour. It's pretty cool actually. I get to talk about all kinds of neat stuff. What do I get to talk about? Well here's a recap of what's been going on so far:
Loves 2 Read invited me to talk about the whole name thing and how the story came about. It's a pretty cool post - just saying...
So I'm Fifty wanted me to talk about gossiping & bullying. This was a hard one, 'cause I kind of had to admit I did something I'm not proud of - but I learned my lesson.
Geo Librarian invited me to talk about why sixth grade rocks. Seriously it does! Check it out!
Rumor Has It asked me to talk about honesty. Yes - I know I was pretending to be Amanda. Can't we just get past that??
Book Lover's Paradise had me talk about family. I even said something nice about Doogle. Ssshhhh!!! Don't tell him.
Make sure you stop by each blog to read what I had to say. There were also some guest posts and interviews of that Toz lady. I guess it's okay, since she did write the book and all, but mostly the tour is all about ME. Oh - and I got some really great reviews. Well the book did, but the book is about me, right? So check out these other awesome blogs too:
Alchemy of Scrawl, Living, Learning, and Loving Life, Book Him Danno, Lindsay and Jane's Views and Reviews, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dave, The Secret DMS Files of Fairday Morrow, and Kids 'n Books
There's also some fun stuff coming up this week. You can see it all here! Reviews, interviews, posts, everything!!
Hey speaking of FUN - do you all want to take a quiz to find out which Millicent Marie character you're most like? I know you do! I hope you all get me, because well let's face it ... Oh well - everyone is pretty fun actually - even Doogle. Oops - there I go again saying nice stuff about him! Anyway - here's the quiz. Girl Who Reads posted it on her blog, and she said I could post it here, too. Do a me a favor and tell me who you got in the comments - I'm dying to know!!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Until next time - - Millie
WOW! What a day I had yesterday! Well not me exactly - well kind of me - sort of. Oh, I'm rambling again aren't I? Mom says I do It all the time. But I'm just so excited! You know that book I was telling you about - the one where I FINALLY get to tell the world my story? Well... it released YESTERDAY and we had a huge PARTY! All for ME!
It was so cool. First, all these awesome people posted about me (er - I mean the book) on their blogs and Facebook and Twitter and - well there's more sites, but I forget. THEN, my creator, Karen Pokras Toz went on Twitter and chatted with people telling them all about me. How cool is that? But the most exciting part is that the fun stuff is not over! Nope - I'm (I mean my book) is on tour now for three whole weeks! I get to visit different blogs everyday!. At first I thought - so big deal. That Toz lady is just going to go on and on about herself, but guess what? Most of the blogs were more inteterested on what I had to say! Yup that's right, I'm the one who is going to be doing most of the talking. Well except one blog, where Doogle gets to talk - blech. Don't know why anyone would want him.
Oh and I almost forgot the best part - there's this stuff called "swag" - you know bookmarks, and stickers, and magnets and stuff. Well apparently we're giving a TON of it away, but you have to go to each blog stop to win. And you can win an Amazon gift card too, so you can pick up a copy of my book. I mean really you can buy anything with it - but I'm just saying. So what are you waiting for?
What's that? You don't know where to go? Well here's the schedule! See you on the tour!!
Until next time - - Millie
Okay, well usually it is (all about me, that is), but I promised you yesterday that I would show you the boards I made up for Natalie, Doogle, and Jordan. What? You don't know who Natalie, Doogle, and Jordan are? Well let me introduce you! In no particular order...
Natalie is my best friend - my BFF. We've been best friends since preschool - at least that's what our parents tell us. Neither of us actually remember preschool. But it's safe to say she's been my best friend from as far back as I can remember. She can be a little goofy and sometimes embarrassing, but as far as friends go, I couldn't ask for anyone better (and I'm not just saying that to make up for the "old bathrobe" comment I made about her in my other blog). I really mean it - Natalie is awesome! As you can see from her board, she is a world traveller, loves makeup (yuk), and is so lucky to already have a cell phone. Although I do have a laptop, so I can't really complain.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, Doogle is my younger brother. I call him Doogle because when he was born, I was only two and I couldn't pronounce Douglas. That's his real name, but I like Doogle better - especially since I know it drives him nuts. Doogle is a big pain in my you know what. He is nosey as anything and is always snooping around my room. He's the one who published my diary on the Internet and started this whole thing. Well - come to think of it, if he didn't do that, I probably wouldn't be here. So I guess Doogle isn't all that bad. I'm still calling him Doogle, though. Here's his board - yup typical ten year old: video games, zombies, and being nosey (aka the spy stuff). Oh yeah - there's a picture of our dog there, too - Sparkles. Doogle insisted on getting him (and naming him), and somehow I wound up being the one taking care of it. I mean him. I'm not big into animals, but I guess Sparkles is okay.
Jordan is my ... well ... I guess you would say crush. No - I am not too young to like boys! Anyway, we were in the Drama Club together. Jordan had the lead, and I got to watch him rehearse everyday as I worked on backstage stuff with Natalie. Let's just say it was a great few months. He's pretty cool don't you think?
Huh? What? Oh Sorry ... guess I was off daydreaming there for a second. Well there you have it! I hope you liked meeting some of the people I hang out with.
Until next time - - Millie
Hey - it's me again... Millie. Thanks so much for stopping by the other day. It was so fun to read all your comments and tweets. It really made me feel kind of special - which is kind of a big deal when you're twelve. Anyway, I thought you might like to know a little bit more about me, so I put together this board with all my favorite things on it:
Some of the stuff is kind of obvious, like the laptop and soccer ball. But did you know I'm really into theater too? I didn't know it either at first. See, I really only joined the Drama Club because Jordan was in it. Actually, my BFF Natalie is the one who talked me into joining. She figured that if we volunteered to do back stage stuff, then I could swoon over Jordan every day. Only, I wasn't counting on him getting the lead with Miss Perfect Faith. No - I'm not being mean or gossipy - she really is perfect and pretty and nice and I don't blame Jordan one bit for liking her. Still, I got to see him everyday, so that's something right? You'd think so if you saw him - he's so cute, and I just know we were meant to be together forever and always - or at least long enough for him to take me to the sixth grade dance.
Oh & about the purple shirt. Natalie made me buy it. I actually didn't want it at all, but I'm glad I agreed to get it. That's all I'm going to tell you. Except maybe that I look super adorable in it. For real!!
Well that's it for now. I hope you liked seeing my favorite stuff. I also made boards for Doogle, Natalie, and Jordan, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see those.
Until next time - - Millie
Hi!! Thanks for stopping by! It's so cool that you are here. I decided to ditch my old blog and start a new one. (See book - ahem.) Only this time, I promise to be completely honest - and kind. Sometimes I'll even have guest posters, like my brother and even that Nate Rocks kid. He seems kind of cool. But they have to follow the rules. No bullying or gossiping allowed! Speaking of bullying, did you know that October is National Bully Prevention Awareness Month? It's true! How awesome is that?? My cool new friends at Lady Reader's Bookstuff & Uniquely Moi Books are holding a month long event to get the word out, and I'm helping them. Yup - little twelve year old me. They were nice enough to let me post something on their blog and even nicer to let me share it again here with you:
I know all about bullying. Not only have I been a victim of bullying, but also I’ve been a bully myself. It’s not something I’m proud of, but I learned a huge lesson. Let me back up a little...
It all started when I was just a little kid. There was this girl named Haylee, and she was always picking on me. Then she got her friends to pick on me, too. I guess they all thought it was funny or cool or something, but it really wasn’t. It hurt my feelings. In fact, at the start of sixth-grade, I decided not to join the soccer team just because Haylee would be on it too. It all sort of worked out though because I wound up joining the Drama Club instead, and Jordan is also in the Drama Club, and he is just so cute and . . . I’m getting off subject aren’t I – sorry. The point it, I was bullied, and I didn’t like it one bit.
I know I should have told a grown-up about all the stuff Haylee and her friends did to me, but I didn’t. Instead, I wrote it in my diary that I keep on my computer. It sort of made me feel better even if it didn’t make the problem go away – that is, until . . . Well, my annoying younger brother thought it would be funny to publish my diary on the Internet as a BLOG! Do you believe that? Lucky for me, I never signed my diary entries with my real name, because let’s face it – Millicent Marie doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Instead, I chose the name Amanda. So the entire school had no idea I was the one who wrote all that stuff.
I was going to delete the blog, but all these people started emailing me asking for advice, and I thought that was pretty neat. No one had really ever cared about what I had to say before. Except – I went a little too far, and may have said a little too much. To me it was just harmless gossip – at least that’s what I convinced myself, but I hurt people’s feelings and that made me a bully too. I know now that what I did to other people was just as wrong as what Haylee and her friends had done to me. I feel really bad, and I hope everyone can forgive me.
There’s a lot more to the story, so I asked my creator, Karen Pokras Toz, to put it all down in a book for me. I hope you’ll give it a read. I learned a lot about gossiping, bullies, friendship, and respect. If you ask me, bullying prevention awareness should be a year-long event.
Well I guess that's it - Oh wait I almost forgot the best part!!. Lady Reader's Bookstuff is giving away a copy of my book! You can enter HERE. Plus Lady Reader's Bookstuff & Uniquely Moi Books are giving tons more books on their sites - so make sure to visit them everyday during the month of October. See I told you my new friends were awesome!
Anyway - thanks for stopping by and come back again soon!!
Until next time - - Millie
Hi - I'm Millie. Well, Millicent Marie really, but you can call me Millie. I'm twelve years old. This is my blog. I hope you like it. Tell all your friends, but don't gossip, because gossiping is wrong. So is bullying. I know this for a fact. If you want to know how I know, read my book. Thanks for stopping by!
