So that Toz Lady came to me and was like, "Millie?" in that weird sweet voice she gets when she wants me to do something? So I said, "Yeah?" in that fake sweet voice I get when I DON'T want to do something, but I know I'm going to HAVE to do it anyway. And she says, "Just hear me out..."  Yeah....

Okay, so here's the deal... She throwing that Nate kid a party. Whatever. It sounds kind of fun actually. She asked if I'd talk about it on my blog, and you know what? I said OKAY. Why not? It's his last book.

(A) that means he's going away, so it's more like a going away party, and

(B) there will be games and prizes - some pretty cool games and prizes actually!

So here's the deal:

Snowball Fight!!!

2/4/2014

Picture
It's been snowing here - A LOT! And even more snow is coming!! My mom keeps complaining, but I thinks it's awesome, and not just because we get to miss school! Natalie and I made a ginormous snowman yesterday - we even let Doogle help us and we had a good time which was so weird because usually he gets all whiny or bossy, but he was pretty fun. Don't tell him I said so - 'kay? Then we went sledding down by the creek. Mom would kill us if she knew, because she gets nervous when we go down there - don't ask me why. All the water was frozen over so we pretended we were Olympic figure skaters in our snow boots. I know - probably not the brightest idea. Anyway - even if the ice cracked and we did fall in, it's not like we'd drown or anything, the creek has like a half a foot of water in it - and that's on a good day. It wouldn't even reach the top of our boots. Parents!

So speaking of snow, do you like snowball fights? I sure do! Oh! I forgot to tell you about the great one we had yesterday! It started at the corner of our street when we were coming back from the creek. Doogle got whacked in the face!! It was SO awesome!!! Then he tried to hit Natalie, but he totally missed. When I started cracking up, he aimed at me, but I was too fast for him and ducked. Instead he hit Wendy's Bookcase!  Did you see that yesterday?? It was so funny! So THEN, all these people showed up at Wendy's Bookcase to comment and stuff and someone won a bunch of PRIZES! I'm SO NOT KIDDING!! WAIT IT GETS BETTER!! Wendy was not happy - so she decided to throw a snowball at MHZ Book Reviews and Giveaways TODAY and if you go there, like her page, and leave a comment, you can win a huge swag pack!!

Isn't that awesome?? Wait, wait - it gets better!! So I heard, that MHZ is going to be throwing a snowball tomorrow at .... ready .... That TOZ LADY next!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I know!!! It's going to be a riot!!!! Then you have to stop by her page (like and comment) to win her prize! If you want to see - stop by her Facebook Page tomorrow - Feb 5th. ...Pretty awesome right?? And on and on it goes for 40 days!

But don't tell her I sent you. That's just between us.

Now My Author Has Gone Crazy!

Picture
First my MOTHER (read that ridiculous story HERE) and now my AUTHOR!

<---- Yup that's her  - the crazy lady in the picture. That's my author, Karen Pokras Toz. She's been on the edge before, but this time she has completely lost her mind. How do I know? Well, I've been snooping around her computer (I KNOW  - REALLY, REALLY BAD OF ME) but I was worried about her, because she's been acting kind of strange lately. It's different than Doogle's snooping, because I'm doing it out of love ... he just snoops to be annoying. Trust me, there's a difference. Mine is more like investigating.

Anyway, here's what I found out:

She FINALLY finished writing the last book in that Nate Rocks series - Nate Rocks the City. Can you believe that kid gets FOUR books in his series? I'm not trying to sound ungrateful for my ONE book or anything, but I happen to know for a fact that just as recently as LAST WEEK someone requested she write ANOTHER Millie book. It's true. I found this in my investigating - a message from a fan with Toz's response in blue:

Picture
YOU SEE THAT?? ONE & DONE?? What's up with that? People are practically begging her to write another book about me, and she is flat out REFUSING! UNBELIEVABLE.  Not only that, upon further snooping ... er ... I mean investigating, I found out that she left this message on a Facebook discussion:
"My character is mad that I'm ending his series ... I'm thinking of giving him a weekly column on my blog."
SAY WHAT? I hope she's not talking about THIS BLOG, because this blog belongs to me ... see that big banner at the top? Last I checked it doesn't say "Millie and Nate Says". Nope, it says MILLIE SAYS. PERIOD. END OF STORY. FINITO. And why should he get a weekly column anyway? Isn't four books enough? I mean some of us only get one book. Just saying.

See what I mean? CRAZY!

Until next time

The Thing About Winter Vacation

12/23/2013

In case you couldn't tell from the title of my post, I'm officially on winter vacation - the key word here being vacation - except, I think someone forgot to tell my parents. Why, you ask? Well, let's review how my week has gone so far and what the rest of my "vacation" looks like, shall we?

Friday: We had a half day of school. I arrived home from school at noon, hoping to be able to spend the day with my best friend, Natalie, but was immediately told I had to help Mom do my laundry (oh yeah -that's one of my chores now, did you miss that post?)

Saturday: Dad woke me up early because he decided he wanted to paint my room, and I had to help him. Yes, you heard me correctly. I guess he finally decided twelve years with purple walls was enough - only guess what color paint he bought without even asking me? Light Purple! I officially give up.

Sunday: Mom decided it would be fun if we baked Christmas cookies together  just for us, since she already baked several dozen during the week that she gave away as gifts. We baked twenty-five dozen. Do you know how many cookies that is? It's THREE HUNDRED ... for the FOUR people in our family. I'm just saying. Cookie anyone?

Picture
photo credit: Julep67 via photopin cc
Today (Monday) - I had to get up at 6:30am. That's even earlier than I have to get up on a normal school day. Would you like to know why? Because Mom scheduled an 7:30am dentist appointment for me. During my vacation - when I should be sleeping in and not be having sharp metal objects stuck inside my mouth. (P.S. ... he told Mom I should try to stay away from sugary treats over the holidays ... like cookies ... )

Tomorrow (Tuesday) - Mom has already told me she will need me to help her clean the house even though she just cleaned it on Saturday (with my help after I finished painting), because we're having company for Christmas tomorrow. I hope Aunt Louise and Uncle Stan like cookies.

Wednesday (Christmas) -You would thing this would be a day off, but I already know that Doogle will come jump on me at the crack of dawn to wake me up Christmas morning, plus Mom expects me to help her in the kitchen, etc, so that she  can have a day off. What?

Thursday - No rest for the weary on the day after Christmas! Mom thinks day after Christmas shopping is our special bonding time. I don't have the heart to tell her otherwise. It's always an exhausting day.

Friday - Will I actually get a day off to enjoy my vacation? Nope! Dad has the day off from work and wants help cleaning the garage which happens to be full old toys and stuff. This will no doubt take all weekend.

Well - I don't want to bore you with the rest, but it's pretty much more of the same until back to school on January 2nd... when I get to go back to school to rest - er - I mean learn...

Happy Holidays everyone!

Until next time

Well it is Thanksgiving and All

Picturephoto credit: rfduck via photopin cc
We've been talking a lot about Thanksgiving in school lately -- and thankfully, not so much about the food part which is good, because I'm usually already pretty hungry during school to begin with - especially given the state of our lunch menus. (Did you miss that post?)

Anyway, we've been talking more about stuff that we're thankful for. You know like having a place to live, and being warm, and having clothes, and toys, and electronics, and stuff like that. Well, I guess we were talking about food, because we are thankful for food - but food in general, not Thanksgiving type food in particular, like turkey, and stuffing, and pie, and ice cream, and cookies, and ... oh snap! Now I AM getting hungry!!

I'll bet you're wondering where all this is going, huh? Well we started talking about sad stuff like the tornados in the midwest and the storms in the Philippines and how those people lost so much, and THEN, we started talking about all of the people in general who don't have things and that made me even sadder!!

Then we started talking about what we could do to HELP people who don't have things, like donate food and clothing to local shelters and other organizations that are helping to collect stuff for people in need. My teacher suggested that you can even organize your own collection in your school to collect things like canned goods, toys, bottled water, and even coats and blankets. That's what my school was doing. So I thought, I'd come here and tell you, in case you wanted to do it in your school, too.

Mom and Dad thought it was such a great idea, we spent the entire weekend going through all our closets collecting things we could donate. Even Doogle got into it. The real shocker was when Mom came up from the basement with boxes of food from her private stash. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is allowed to touch that food.

Dad loaded up the van and we drove it over to the school where trucks were on hand to collect everything. When we got home, he logged on to the computer and showed us some pictures from the midwest and the Philippines. Doogle and I both decided to donate our allowance. Sometimes that kid is ok. If you want to donate too, here is the link:

Happy Thanksgiving and remember those in need!

I Have A New Friend and She Has Pie!

11/4/2013

Hey everyone! I'm so excited because today I FINALLY get to introduce you to my new friend, Georgie!! I've been trying to get her on my blog for like forever (okay, well maybe not forever, but definitely since that Toz lady created her which has been at least a few months now). She's kind of shy and has been really busy, but she's finally here, and I'm super excited. Even more exciting is that she agreed to let me interview her!

Hi Georgie! Welcome to my blog!

Hi Millie - Wow - this is pretty cool. I've never been on a blog before! I'm kind of nervous. I brought you a pie. Apple Walnut. It's one of my favorites.
Picturephoto credit: Dinner Series via photopin cc

Whoa - that's for me? Thanks! I knew you were awesome! I read in your book how you love to bake, and I was secretly hoping you'd bring me a pie! Speaking of your book, I notice that we kind of have some stuff in common.

We do? Like what? Do you like ballet and baking pies also?

Well no, but we both have younger siblings who can be kind of - um - annoying. And we both have super cool best friends.

Ah - yes to both of those!

Picture
But you have something really neat that I don't - you got to meet someone really special. Tell me what she was like.

Oh, you are talking about Eve, right? Well, I guess I should start at the beginning of my story. See, we had to move towns because my grandma was going into a nursing home, and my parents wanted us to live closer to her. I had always taken ballet lessons with my best friend, Amber, but in this new town, they were way too expensive, so my parents said I wasn't going to be able to take them. I was totally bummed. TOTALLY. Anyway, I spent a lot of time baking and visiting my grandma instead, which was still fun but not the same, you know? One day, my grandma got a new roommate. A woman named Eve. When I first met Eve, she told me she used to be a ballerina in Russia back in the 1940's and 1950's. Only back then it was called the Soviet Union. Not only that, she said danced with Paulina Strofsky, one of my favorite ballerinas! I couldn't believe it when she first told me! I was starstruck.

I'll bet! Eve seems like such a sweet lady.

She is - she always has stories for me about what it was like to dance back then, and what it was like to live in the Soviet Union. I had no idea things were so different there than they are here. We became really great friends. Amber came to visit me, and she loved hearing Eve's stories, too. It sort of made me feel like I was dancing, even though I wasn't and in the meantime, Amber helped me think of ways I could try to make money to pay for the lessons. She's a good friend.

Picture

She sounds like my Natalie. So did it work? Did you make enough money?

Well, I can't give away all the secrets in the book (that Toz lady would get real mad at me) but I can tell you that some of the stuff we tried was kind of disastrous. Toz thought it would make kids laugh, but honestly, all it did was get us in trouble.

Yeah, she did some stuff like that to me, too. It was embarrassing!  Anyway, thanks so much for coming on my blog!

Thanks, Millie! This was a lot of fun!

I'm so glad to have another girl to hang out with here! You can come hang out whenever you want!

Until next time

Tales From the Lunch Room

Whoa - is it actually Saturday? I wasn't sure I was going to make it through the week. Especially Wednesday. Wednesday was not a good day. Well it was an okay day. But Natalie says you can tell if it's going to be a good day or not by what is on the hot lunch menu at school, and Wednesday's menu was NOT GOOD.

Oh yeah - I see you all nodding with me. You know what I'm talking about. They don't even give it a real name. They only call it "Chicken Surprise." SERIOUSLY? What the heck is that supposed to mean? Doogle says it means they take all the chicken leftovers from the last three weeks, throw them in a big pot,  and stir them together.  He says that they also throw in all the other non-chicken leftovers, too (He says that's the "surprise" part.) EWWW!!!

Picture

So on Wednesday, I told Mom that I wanted to pack lunch, but she said she didn't have anything for me to bring. Um - have you seen our basement? There's enough food down there to feed all of Springside Elementary! I don't get it - why does she buy all that food if we can't eat it? She says she's saving it in case we have an emergency. Well guess what, Mom? THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!! I tried to sneak down there to grab a can of tuna and some bread, but Mom had her eye on the basement door all night. That's what I get for asking first.

I made sure to eat a big breakfast Wednesday morning, and I did manage to pilfer an apple and a banana out of the fruit basket on my way out the door to the school bus. Boy was I hungry by the time I got home. But it was worth it - because there was no way I was eating that Chicken Surprise. It smelled even worse that it looked. Thursday and Friday at least had semi-identifiable and somewhat edible foods.

Anyway - it's all good now. I survived, and I shall spend my weekend preparing my strategy for this week's menu. I see that Thursday's offering is called "Cream of Meat Mash." That can't be good.

Until next time

My Mother Has Gone Insane!

Yes - you read that right & no I'm not even kidding!! UGH!

Here's the deal. So we have to take this class in school called Family and Consumer Sciences. Mom says it's just a fancy name for Home Economics. At first it was fun - we got to cook fun stuff like brownies and cookies and we even learned how to use the sewing machine. I made a cute little pillow in the shape of a panda bear.

Picture
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rezanaghibi/4673956723/
Well, it was supposed to be in the shape of a panda bear. It looks more like a black and white fuzzy ball, but that's beside the point. It's still soft and cuddly - and I made it - that's what matters right?

Anyway, the class was going great... and then ... Mrs. Denow (she's our Family and Consumer Sciences teacher) announced we'd be learning how to use the washer and dryer ... as in laundry machines. Our homework was to go home and do a load of laundry. YUK! We couldn't even fake it either because our parents had to sign a piece of paper saying we did it. So by the time I got home, of course Mom had done everyone's laundry except Doogle's. So guess who got stuck washing his stinky clothes? DOUBLE YUK!!

Picture
http://www.flickr.com/photos/55955607@N02/7048784317/

Not only that - Mom said I did such a great job, that from now on, she was adding doing my own laundry to MY chore list. SERIOUSLY? See what I mean? INSANE!

Until next time

I'll bet you're wondering what I'm talking about, huh? Well, I've been snooping around this Toz lady's website, and I noticed something... have you seen it? She's got a new kid's book coming out, and it's NOT a Nate Rocks book. It's another GIRL book. I mean boys can read it too - from what I've heard lots of boys have read my book, and I'm totally cool with that. What I meant was that it has a girl main character. I know what your thinking - you're thinking that I'm going to be upset that Toz didn't write another book about ME, but I'm not... because this book looks so RAD. From what I can tell, it's about a girl named Georgie, and I think I'm going to like her a lot. Actually, I think YOU'RE going to like her a lot! Well, I don't actually know yet, because the book doesn't come out for a few more weeks, but I'm pretty sure - plus, you know me - I try to be nice to everyone (well except Doogle - but that's his own fault. I'm even nice to Nate most of the time.) Anyway... I totally plan to invite her on to my blog when she's officially released, so stay tuned for more details! In the meantime, you can snoop around the website too to read some of the early reviews and stuff... Oh here's the cover. Cool right?
Picture
Told ya!
Oh yeah... here's what it's about:

Ballet and baking pies – these are two of twelve year old Georgie Harris’ favorite things. When her parents decide to move closer to her grandmother’s nursing home, Georgie quickly learns the bad news: dance lessons are too expensive in this new town.

Georgie spends most of her time baking pies to bring to her grandmother at the Willow Lakes Nursing Home. There she meets Eve, who inspires Georgie with stories of having danced with a world famous Russian ballerina many years ago.

As Georgie and Eve’s friendship evolves, their tales intertwine in this feel good story showing dreams really can come true.

& you can add it to your Goodreads to read list now or visit the Toz lady's Amazon author page and click on "stay up to date" to find out when it's available... or just keep checking back here.. that will work too!

Okay - So I know this post will probably get me in trouble if my mom sees it - so do me a favor and don't tell her okay? Because we all know I'm big on the whole anti-bullying/anti-gossiping thing and I am REALLY. This isn't actually bullying or gossiping - but it is bragging - and that's not really good either - but in I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF.

See here's the thing. Nate Rocks is always bragging that he won this award and that award - BLAH BALH BLAH - like I really care. Big deal he has three books and that Toz lady is writing a fourth one. I happen to know for a fact that my readers keep asking that Toz lady to write another book about ME and she keeps saying NO. Yeah - that's right. She says NO. I've got the emails to prove it. Seriously - Sometimes I just don't know what's wrong with that lady. I mean - I've got a good story to tell - plus I'm cute - right?

Anyway - back to the real reason I'm here today. It's to tell Nate and you all my really BIG news. I won an AWARD!! Oh Yeah I did. Not just any award, but a
GLOBAL EBOOK GOLD MEDAL AWARD - in pre-teen literature. HA! Take that Nate Rocks! What? You won the same award last year,Nate? Doesn't matter - You still can't wipe the smile off my face - I can't hear you - la-la- la-la-la-la-la.....
