![]() Hi Everyone! OMG - I'm super excited today, because today I get to be the host for this month's Character Book Club meeting!! In case you missed it, last month, my buddy Nate Rocks was interviewed by the gang over on Fairday's Blog. You can catch up here... Nathan was supposed to interview them this month, but ever since they made him a member of their Detective Mystery Squad, he's been off solving all kinds of mysteries, so he asked if I could host them instead. Well - duh - of course I can host them! They're awesome! Didn't you see my review?? I can't wait to get started, so let's invite them in! Everyone let me introduce you the Detective Mystery Squad or the DMS ... otherwise know as Fairday, Lizzy, and Marcus! Welcome!!! So, for those folks out there who aren’t familiar with your story, can you tell us a little about the DMS? Fairday: The DMS stands for Detective Mystery Squad. It’s a club that Lizzy and I came up with. We’ve been friends since the 1st grade, and we love solving mysteries. So, we decided to create a club where we uncover the truth in unsolved cases. We’ve been in business for 2 years, and have come across some really interesting mysteries! Lizzy: Investigating the Begonia House was awesome, and it’s been fun having Brocket the Rocket in the DMS now- even though he isn’t as cool as he thinks he is. lol. Marcus: I am as cool as anyone you know, Lizzy. : ) Tell them about the question, Fairday. Fairday: Right! In order to get into the DMS, you have to guess the answer to an ancient riddle. Lizzy: Should we tell them the riddle? Marcus: Um, yeah! Here it is: What goes on four legs, then on two, and at last on three? DMS: We’ll be waiting to hear from you! ![]() Hey, Marcus, I think you're pretty cool. You all are actually. But speaking of cool, let's talk about those backpacks you carry – what exactly do you have in them? Lizzy: Well, mine has a headlamp, tweezers, my older brother’s multi-tool key chain, and a digital camera. Fairday has the notebook, binoculars, finger-printing powder, black light, and small flashlight. We’re still fitting Marcus with his-even though he doesn’t need anything! Marcus: Hey, what can I say? My dad’s in the FBI and I have some pretty cool tools that I get to “borrow”. Wow - I need to get some of that finger-printing powder. It's the perfect way to finally prove my little brother is still snooping around my bedroom! So, just out of curiosity here - have you ever had a mystery that you weren’t able to solve? Fairday: Almost! If it hadn’t been for my little sister, Margo, stumbling on a strange pair of sneakers, who knows what would have happened at the Begonia House! HaHa - we'll see about that Marcus! Seriously, though, you all are pretty brave – I mean dealing with trees that come alive, shoes that are cursed, and a mirror you can walk through! Do you ever get scared? Fairday: Well, sometimes. I mean, there was a point when we were working on the Begonia House case that I was really scared and I wasn’t sure if we were going to be okay. But, having my partners with me gave me confidence. We solved the mystery and no one was hurt- success! Lizzy: I’m not really afraid of too many things. I get scared when I see other people who are afraid- though I must admit the willow tree coming alive was pretty freaky : ) Marcus: Me scared? No way! Fairday and Lizzy roll their eyes again : ) Do you have any more mysteries in the works that will be made into books? Fairday: Yes! We will be working on a case called The Talking Library next... Lizzy: Marcus: You will not even believe what we have uncovered for this next case. It’s seriously going to rock. Where can readers find out more about you? Fairday: You can stop by my blog to check out the latest buzz on the DMS and find out more about the middle grade and children’s picture books that are haunting the shelves of book shops these days. : ) Lizzy: Stop by Fairday’s Blog! We would love to hear from you! Marcus: You should definitely stop by. It’s pretty awesome. Marcus: I am so psyched that Nate Rocks is in the DMS! He is such a cool character! You seem fun too, Millie. I hope you guess the riddle- man, it’s a tough question though ; ) Lizzy: Nate is really awesome. I know his imagination will come in handy solving cases. We would love to have you in the DMS, Millie! : ) Thank you so much for hosting the 2nd Character Book Club! It was great to be here with you today, and we can’t wait to find out where we are meeting next! Hey - I DO know the answer to that riddle - you know why? Because I read it in your book!! But I don't want to just blurt it all out here, so I'll email you. I'm so glad you guys stopped by this was a BLAST!! Before you go though ... I have a little problem I was hoping you could help me with. See I’m pretty sure there’s a ghost in my house. He (she?) only comes out at night, and I have to be honest. It’s kind of freaking me out. Any tips on how I can figure out the mystery and maybe get it to go away?
Marcus: Awesome idea, Lizzy. Something else I would try is lightly attaching a piece of string across the hallway. Don’t put it up too high in case it is a person, you don’t want them to get hurt-maybe around leg/thigh length. This will let you know if anyone walks past that spot. Oh and it’s really important to use tape to attach the string, and then no one will get hurt if they touch the string- it will just fall off. When you hear the sound and the tape falls off, then you know that it is a person- otherwise further investigation is necessary. Fairday: I love that one, and it reminded me of another idea. Before you go to sleep, put a piece of tape on the outside of each door in the hallway- from the door to the trim- If the tape is broken in the morning, then you know who was walking around at night. Who knows, it could be a clue! Marcus: If you have access to night vision goggles you can put them on and hide out in the hallway. This could be scary, and you may want to invite a friend or use a video camera that can record in the dark, so that you don’t have to stay in the hall. If you use a video camera set it up on a stand at the end of the hall and hit record. Maybe in the morning all will be revealed! Fairday: We hope you will keep us posted on the investigation. If you need more ideas or some extra help, give us a call and we will see if we can get there to help! Hey! Those are great ideas!! Thank you!!
And ... Guess what? We're doing ANOTHER Fan Art Contest this week! This time you'll be drawing the DMS solving a mystery to win a signed copy of THE SECRET DMS FILES OF FAIRDAY MORROW! ![]() Be sure to join us for next month's Character Book Club meeting! It's going to be awesome and you'll never guess who is getting interviewed .... ME!! Yup, I'm getting interviewed by Eric and his owl, Stig from The Deliverers by Gregory Slomba! I can't wait!! Thanks for joining us today!!

How exciting, a new member! I would have liked to get a DMS backpack, too. The Talking Library is a wonderful title. Can't wait to read it. (I can imagine plenty of colourful voices from there ...) Great interview, guys!
